On 14th June, Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson delayed the propagandised ‘Freedom Day’, stating that the June 21st date was being pushed back because of concerns about the highly transmissible Delta variant. He also stated: “Even if the link between infection and hospitalisation has been weakened it has not been severed.”
Today, Johnson announced the abandoning of certain crucial precautionary measures, including mask-wearing and social distancing, on 19th July.
“Hands, Face, Space” has become “Hands…… and good luck to you!”
Today, he stated that “the vaccination programme has broken the link between infections and hospitalisations.” This is, of course, a monstrous LIE (yet another!) Obviously it is not ‘broken!’ Three weeks ago, he said it was ‘weakened’; today he said it is ‘broken!’ The scientists have today confirmed it is weakened!
And three weeks ago, he expressed concerns about the Delta variant and gave that as the reason for delaying the lifting of health-based precautions. The number of daily UK cases on that day was 10,114. Today, it was 27,334!
Today’s announcement came a week or so early! Johnson had previously stated that he’d make decisions about the lifting of health-based precautions (my terminology) after reviewing the data next Monday (12th July).
So, why today?!
Today, in the House of Commons, all Tory MP’s voted down all the proposed amendments to the Police, Crime, Sentencing & Courts Bill 2021…. and they voted for the Bill in its original form in what was its third reading.
The passing of the Bill through Parliament had been deliberately delayed by the Tories so that it wouldn’t be an issue during the recent Local Elections. Now, they’re intent on getting it through asap. It now goes to the House of Lords and then back to the Commons. As we saw today, the Tory’s 80-seat majority means they can more-or-less do what they like…. and they are doing! The Bill is racist and deeply undemocratic, but it will become Law unless large numbers of people protest, demonstrate, write to their MP, go on strike, DO SOMETHING!
And our right to protest – a cornerstone of our Democracy for centuries which enabled so many rights to be won – will be gone. Yet another check and balance against authoritarian power will be gone.
Why Today? It’s called ‘dominating the news cycle’. The TV News today was filled with Johnson ‘giving people their freedom’ (to get long-covid). The billionaires’ newspapers tomorrow will be filled with nationalistic and deceitful headlines persuading us that the government’s Pandemic response has been fabulous – instead of the unmitigated clusterf**k and litany of rampant corruption that it has been – and that Johnson is giving us back our freedoms.
And the Conservatives actually voting to take them away…… that’ll be a tiny piece on page 28…. and it won’t be truthful!
