WED 2    LORTON VOLUNTEERS CONSERVATION TASK, 10am – 3pm.  A regular day of practical work at Lorton Meadows Nature Reserve restoring habitats important for local wildlife.  Tools, gloves & drinks supplied.  No experience necessary, please bring a packed lunch.  Meet at the Centre at 10am.  Lorton Meadows Conservation Centre, Lorton Lane, Upwey, Weymouth, DT3 5QH.

 

WED 2    THE GREAT HEATH PROJECT VOLUNTEER WORK PARTY, 10am – 4pm.  Practical conservation work on a variety of habitats.  A wide range of tasks will be carried out; tools & training provided.  Come along every Wednesday until end of March & enjoy what the countryside has to offer.  For more information call Sally Wright at the Urban Wildlife Centre on 01202 692033.

 

THUR 3  CHRISTMAS COFFEE MORNING with mince pies & sales stall.  10am – 12 noon, Upper Foyer, Regent Centre, Christchurch. 

THUR 3  PASTURES NEW VOLUNTEER TASK, 10am.  Join the regular group in West Dorset.  Tasks range from hedgelaying to Himalayan balsam pulling in locations all over West Dorset.  Contact Nick Gray on 07824 438974 or at [email protected] for details.

FRI 4        CHRISTMAS LUNCH & TALK, entitled A history of Dorset Wildlife Trust by guest, Tony Bates MBE, DWT President.  12.30pm, Loders Village Hall, DT6 3SA. 

 

SAT 5     WILD LORTON DAY ‘CHRISTMAS MINI-WREATHS’, 10am – 4pm.  The Centre is open for visitors, come along for a walk around the reserve, follow a self-guided trail, drop in for a hot drink, watch the birds on screen, peruse our selection of wonderful Wildlife Trust Christmas Cards, wildlife books & ID guides – fantastic if you need to do some last minute Christmas shopping! Plus get crafty with us & create Christmas Mini-Wreaths from natural materials (£2/wreath).  No unaccompanied children. SAT 5     FESTIVE FORAGING & WREATH MAKING, 10am – 1pm.  Make your own natural Christmas wreath at Dorset Wildlife Trust’s Urban Wildlife Centre, Corfe Mullen.  Forage with us for your festive greenery & then learn how to make your own wreath to take home.  Outdoor activity so please wear warm clothing & stout footwear.  £10 to include refreshments & a mince pie.  Places limited so BOOKING ESSENTIAL on 01202 692033 or email [email protected]

SUN 6     EAST DORSET/ARC WORK PARTY, 10am – approx. 2.30pm.  Lend a hand with practical conservation work at Parley Common.  Meet at the Barrack Lane entrance at SZ 094993. TUES 8   THE POOLE HARBOUR CATCHMENT INITIATIVE, a presentation by Nicola Hopkins from Wessex Water about how this important initiative supports healthy rivers & groundwater & improvements to biodiversity within the catchment.  7.30pm, Carter Community School, Blandford Close, Poole BH15 4BQ.
