A Wimborne man has been jailed for two violent assaults on his then partner.
Ryan Michael Moors, aged 26 and of Grove Road, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday 7 May 2021 after admitting offences of inflicting grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Moors also admitted breaching a suspended sentence and was jailed for a total of three years. A restraining order was also put in place for an indefinite period, prohibiting him from contacting his victim.
On Monday 15 June 2020 the victim attended Poole General Hospital and claimed she had injured her left arm by falling over in the bedroom of her partner’s address the previous night.
She was accompanied by Moors and staff noticed she appeared nervous around the defendant.
Following x-rays it was confirmed that the victim had sustained a fracture to her forearm. Medics noted that the injuries were more consistent with defensive injuries rather than from a fall and that the woman appeared to be holding her ribs on her left side, but denied her ribs had been injured.
Hospital staff then saw the defendant shouting at the victim as they left hospital.
The following day it was reported to police by a third party that the victim had been injured, with the injuries believed to have been sustained at the hands of Moors, and concerns were raised for her welfare.
Following enquiries, Moors was arrested and residents from neighbouring properties reported hearing raised voices in his address in the early hours of Monday 15 June 2020.
Officers were also given access to the victim’s medical records. They showed the victim had attended the minor injuries unit in January 2020 for treatment to a fractured nose, which she claimed had been caused by her accidentally slipping down the stairs.
Following support from officers, the victim was interviewed and disclosed that Moors had broken her arm in June 2020. She said he had gone to kick her in the head and she had put her arm up in defence.
She added that in January 2020 Moors had punched her to the face, causing her fractured nose.
Detective Constable Ian Caddy, of Bournemouth CID, said: “The violence and abuse that Ryan Moors demonstrated toward his then partner is completely unacceptable and we will do all we can to ensure those who commit these kind of despicable offences are held to account.
“For the victim to come forward and report the matters to police took a huge amount of courage and I want to praise her for the strength and bravery she has shown in coming forward and helping secure a prison term for this dangerous offender.
“I hope this case sends a clear message that we will support victims of domestic abuse and investigate all reports thoroughly to ensure offenders are brought to justice.”
