WITNESS APPEAL AFTER ATTEMPTED ROBBERY IN WEYMOUTH

Detectives in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward after an attempted robbery in the town.

The incident happened at around 7pm on Sunday 21 February 2016 on Chickerell Road near to the junction with Dennis Road.

The victim, a 20-year-old local man, was cycling toward the town centre when he was approached by two other men. The two men then tried to grab his bike and rucksack on the victim’s back, before one of the men punched the victim in the face.

The victim managed to escape and nothing was stolen. He was later taken to Poole Hospital for treatment on a broken jaw.

One of the offenders is described as around six feet two inches tall and the other offender was slightly shorter. They both had their faces covered with a scarf and hood.

Detective Constable Gerald Marchant, of Weymouth CID, said: “I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact me on 101.

“I would also like to speak to anyone who witnessed two men acting suspiciously in the area at the time of the incident.”

No arrests have been made.
