Woman and child with serious injuries following collision near Wareham

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward as they investigate the circumstances of a serious injury road traffic collision near Wareham.

At 2.50pm on Sunday 27 August 2023 Dorset Police received a report of a two vehicle collision involving a black Volkswagen Up! and a white Vauxhall Zafira on the A351 Sandford Road at Sandford.

A child passenger of the Volkswagen was taken by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital for treatment to injuries that are believed to be serious but not life-threatening or life-changing.

The female driver of the Volkswagen was also taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

All other occupants of the vehicles were checked over by the ambulance at the scene and were not believed to have sustained serious injuries.

Road closures were put in place as emergency services responded to the incident.

Police Constable Adam Carr, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “We are conducting enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this collision and I would urge anyone who saw what happened or motorists who might have captured relevant dashcam footage to please contact us.

“I would also like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding during the road closures.”
