Woman in her 70’s robbed in Dorchester

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a reported robbery in Dorchester.

At around 3.05pm yesterday, Friday 12 October 2018, a local woman aged in her 70s was walking along Alexandra Terrace having been to the bank in the town when it is reported she was grabbed by a man and robbed of her handbag.

The victim was reportedly knocked to the ground during the incident and sustained bruising to her hands and knees.

The suspect is described a white, aged in his 40s, tall and of skinny build. He left the scene along an alleyway near to Alexandra Terrace.

A 47-year-old man from Dorchester has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and is assisting officers with their investigations.

Enquiries are underway, including CCTV footage checks.

Detective Sergeant Simon Austin, of Weymouth CID, said: “This incident has left the victim understandably shaken.

“I know there were a number of people in the area at the time of this incident and I would ask anyone who witnessed what happened and has not yet spoken to officers to please contact Dorset Police.”
