The incident happened at around 1.50pm on Saturday 2 July 2022. It was reported that a woman in her 80s was crossing High East Street when she was struck by a van, causing her to go up the bonnet and then land on her feet on the pavement.

The van driver stopped at the scene, but he failed to give adequate details to the injured party.

The female pedestrian later suffered hip pain and had to seek medical treatment for a fracture.

Police Sergeant Geraint Butler, of the road traffic unit, said: “I appreciate that some time has passed since the collision. Unfortunately, it was only reported to police around a week after it happened.

“However, it occurred during a busy time of the day when many people would have been in town and I hope that somebody might still remember seeing the collision.

“I would ask anyone with information about the incident who has not yet spoken with police to please come forward.

“In particular, I would like to hear from a man who came to the scene from a nearby camping shop and a man and a woman who were also in the vicinity with their two daughters as they may have information that could assist my investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk/contact, via email [email protected] or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55220111475.
