West Dorset residents will get the chance to question their local parliamentary candidate about how they plan to support women if they are voted into parliament in the general election this May.

To launch a week of activities to celebrate international Women’s Day, local group the Women’s Action Network Dorset (WAND) are hosting a Question Time style debate with key parliamentary candidates standing to represent West Dorset.

The event is being held at the Town Hall in Dorchester, DT1 1HF Friday 6th March and doors will open at 7.30pm with the debate itself taking place from 8pm-9pm.

Key representatives including Oliver Letwin (Conservative MP), Rachel Rogers (Labour candidate), David Glossup (UKIP candidate), Peter Barton (Green candidate) and Ros Kayes (Liberal Democrat candidate) have all confirmed they will be attending the event.

During the session itself, the audience will put their questions to the candidates, so that they can explain what they’re planning on doing for women in Dorset around topics such as equal pay, women’s representation, childcare and health. Questions may relate to local concerns or reflect national issues.

The debate will be chaired by BBC Radio Solent’s afternoon show presenter Katie Martin.

Katie says “It’s great to be involved in an event such as this, where women from all walks of life can make their voices heard, and for those in the positions of power in our community to put the issues that matter to women in Dorset at the top of the agenda.”

Booking is essential – reserve your FREE ticket via the WAND website or by calling 01305 252204.

For the opportunity to get involved, please submit your question by 4pm on Wednesday 4 March to the WAND website at www.wandwomen.org.uk – contributors will then be invited to pose their query on the night.

If there are any additional candidates who are planning to stand in West Dorset who would like to be included on the panel, please email [email protected]

Visit the WAND website for information on other activities taking place during Dorset Women’s Week.
