Sunday 12 April will see Pavilion Dance in Bournemouth once again host a day of information, talks, workshops and even a film premiere on World Parkinson’s Day.
The day will feature information stalls, movement & drumming workshops and discussion panels with local artists, health and wellbeing organisations, and representatives of the NHS and Parkinson’s UK.
Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition. The main symptoms of Parkinson’s are tremors, rigidity and slowness of movement. There’s currently no cure for Parkinson’s and we don’t yet know why people get the condition but at Pavilion Dance there is a weekly fun and therapeutic class, which participants have named ‘Fun Fridays’, with movement specifically designed for the symptoms of Parkinson’s.
World Parkinson’s Day will also feature the première screening of PARKINSON DANCES, a film by Ceri Higgins (Bournemouth University), conceived in collaboration with participants of the PDSW Parkinson’s Dance class, on Sunday 12 April 3pm at Pavilion Dance, Bournemouth. PARKINSON DANCES is an uplifting, poetic and emotional evocation of how the magic of dance helps people face the daily challenges of Parkinson’s and live life to the full.
