The population of England and Wales has grown by more than 3.5 million (6.3%) and now stands at 59.6 million, new census data reveals.

New figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) also show that there are now more people aged 65 and over than ever before – 18.6% of the population, compared to 16.4% in 2011.

At the time of the last census, which was carried out on 27 March 2011, the population of England and Wales was 56.1 million.
Since then, the population has grown in all English regions and in Wales – with the East of England experiencing the highest growth – an increase of 8.3% or roughly 488,000 residents – since 2011.

The local authorities where the population has decreased the most are both in London. In Kensington and Chelsea it fell by 9.6% and in Westminster it went down by 6.9%.

By contrast, Tower Hamlets, also in London, experienced the highest population growth (an increase of 22.1%), followed by Dartford in Kent (20%).

London also has the highest proportion of 15 to 64-year-olds with that group accounting for 70%.

Like in 2011, there are still more women (51% of the population) than men (49%).

The latest census, conducted on 21 March 2021, also shows there are 1.4 million more households – an increase of 6.1% – than there were in 2011 – with a total of 24.8 million across the two countries.

What does this reveal? That all the lip service has nothing to do with controlling the size of the population and everything to do with stoking division.

The same with austerity. It was framed as balancing the books and yet up to 2019 the debt had gone from £800 billion in 2010 to 2.2 trillion.

One lie after another whilst we fight ourselves. They must be eternally creaming.
