Dear Sir Keir,
I write to you with a heavy heart and a profound sense of responsibility. As we prepare to transition power to your leadership, I must candidly acknowledge the severe economic and political turmoil that we are bequeathing to you and the British people.
Over the past years, the decisions and policies enacted under our tenure have led to widespread economic instability and societal division. Despite our intentions, the outcome has been a stark deterioration in key areas of public life and governance.
Firstly, our economic performance has been disastrous. We have seen stagnation in growth, soaring unemployment, and inflation reaching unprecedented levels in respect to the recent past. Public debt is at an all-time high, and our fiscal strategies have failed to deliver the promised prosperity. This economic mismanagement has resulted in a sharp increase in inequality, with the wealth gap between the richest and the poorest widening significantly.
The NHS, once a beacon of national pride, is now on its knees. Chronic underfunding and mismanagement have led to severe staff shortages, unacceptably long waiting times, and a decline in the quality of care. The education sector is similarly beleaguered, with schools and universities struggling under the weight of budget cuts, resulting in overcrowded classrooms, overworked teachers, and declining educational outcomes.
Our immigration policy has also been a failure, contributing to both economic and social strain. Instead of creating a fair and efficient system, our approach has fostered division and insecurity among communities. Moreover, our political rhetoric has often been consumed with accusations of others being ‘woke,’ diverting attention from substantial policy issues and deepening societal rifts.
I must also express my deepest regrets for enabling the far-right, under figures like Nigel Farage, to gain influence. Our political strategy, at times, indirectly empowered these elements, resulting in their increased presence in public discourse and electoral success. This shift has contributed to a troubling rise in hate crimes and societal polarisation, undermining the values of inclusivity and respect that should underpin our society.
In admitting these failures, I am deeply sorry for the havoc wreaked upon our nation. The economic mismanagement, the rise in inequality and hate crime, the failing public services, and the empowerment of divisive elements have left the country in a precarious state.
As you take over, I offer my full cooperation and support to facilitate a smooth transition. I have every confidence in your ability to steer the nation towards recovery, rebuild trust in our institutions, and heal the divisions that have emerged. The road ahead is undoubtedly challenging, but with the right policies and a commitment to the welfare of all citizens, I believe progress can be achieved.
Once again, I apologise for the dire state of affairs you are inheriting and wish you the very best in your endeavours to rectify them. The nation looks to you with hope and expectation, and I trust that you will rise to the occasion.
Yours sincerely,
