El Jurassico!

Real Madrid v Barcelona at the Bernabeu this was not, but to Poole Town and Weymouth fans this was the big one, ‘El Jurassico’!

Ok, I know its a bit different from eighty thousand Spaniards roaring their team on, but two hundred odd fans, on a cold Tuesday night in the middle of October isn’t bad, considering that the Red Insure Cup isn’t a priority competition for either side. Both sides started brightly however, but it was the Dolphins who looked the more likely to score, and on 23 minutes the Dolphins did have the ball in the net, only for the assistant referee to flag for offside. Rhys Baggridge the unlucky player. It didn’t take too long though for Poole to take the lead, when on 30 minutes young Sam Wilson scored from about an inch out after some great work from Carl Preston. The Dolphins cause was given a further boost when just before half time Weymouth were reduced to ten men, Lewis Clarke was given his marching orders after a very reckless challenge on Preston. Ironically enough, Clarke made four appearances for Poole last season while on loan from Yeovil, and got sent off in one of them too! So, it was to be Poole who lead 1-0 at the break.

Weymouth started the second half brightly, but just couldn’t make the breakthrough, and it was to be the Dolphins who would draw first blood in the second half, when former Truro City player Adam Kelly slotted cooly past the Weymouth keeper to make it 2-0. A minute earlier Kelly had hit the crossbar with a lovely curling shot. By this time Poole were well in control and with eight minutes to go Sam Wilson scored his second from six yards out to make the scoreline even more emphatic.

So, 3-0 it finished, the long awaited El Jurassico went the way of the Dolphins, and their winning streak continues.
