Calling all fans (young and old) of The Portland Chronicles
The fourth book in the series, The Portland Giant, is out now.
Carol Hunt is a top-selling author with her other books The Portland Sea Dragon, Enchantment of the Black Dog and Portland Pirates. Her fantasy adventure stories are aimed at children aged 9 upwards but are attracting fans of all ages, grandparents included.
When asked what inspired Carol to write about giants she says, ‘I’ve always been fascinated by them. When I started writing The Portland Giant, I looked at lots of stories, including Jack and the Beanstalk and Roald Dahl’s BFG. As a child, one of my favourite stories was The Giant Under the Snow by John Gordon, about a giant who is part of the land. Giants are often connected to landmarks, mounds, old stones and hills. I also visited the famous Cerne Abbas Giant in Dorset. Closer to home, on the Isle of Portland, I found out about huge, stone-slinging people who once lived at the Verne, defending the island. A further intriguing clue to local ‘giants of old’ is the Giant’s Head near the Grove, a massive face in the cliffs overlooking the sea.’
