Weymouth College Engineering students had the opportunity to showcase their welding skills at an inaugural event held at The Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE), in London.
The academy’s activities in education and training tackle the strategic challenge of creating a system of engineering education and training that satisfies the aspirations of young people, whilst delivering the high calibre engineers and technicians that businesses need.
The event was the culmination of Ideas on further education engineering competitions throughout FE colleges in the north and south of England. Weymouth College students were pitched against Chichester College students in a virtual welding competition, using state of the art equipment supplied by Weymouth College.
The students had lunch at the academy followed by a talk from Professor Matthew Harrison on the role the academy has linking education and training with business and industry and the importance each sectors roll is in the success of businesses in the UK. Six students from each college took part in the competition and each had to complete three welds of various types, scores were then collated.
The standard throughout the competition was high and the results were as follows:-
Team Cup: Weymouth College
