Leading Dorset and Somerset law firm, Humphries Kirk, is sponsoring the Life Education Wessex mobile classrooms for the fifth year.

Humphries Kirk has supported the charity for over a decade with various initiatives and has renewed its sponsorship of the mobile classrooms. The classrooms travel to schools across the Wessex region including Dorset and Somerset, visiting more than 50,000 children each year, to encourage them to make healthier choices.

Felicity Hedger and Katharine Jones from Humphries Kirk visited St Mary’s Catholic First School in Dorchester earlier this month to meet with one of their specially trained educators, Naomi Evans and the class of Year Two.

Katharine Jones, partner at Humphries Kirk, commented: “We are proud of our long-standing partnership with Life Education Wessex, having worked with them for over a decade.”

The partnership between Humphries Kirk and Life Education Wessex began when Felicity Hedger, former senior partner at Humphries Kirk, viewed a presentation by the charity at a local networking event. She was moved by a story she heard about a local new born baby who was exposed to illegal drugs and felt compelled to learn more about Life Education Wessex.

Felicity went on to become a trustee of the charity and continues to support its work. Felicity commented: “Children today are under increasing pressures and temptations to damage their health and futures through poor diets, unhealthy lifestyles, drugs, smoking and alcohol, which is why education in their developing years is so important.

“It was great to meet the Year Two pupils at St Mary’s Catholic First School and join in with their learning session. The children learnt what happens to the body when certain foods are digested and drinks are consumed, as well as learning about the benefits of personal hygiene and eating a balanced diet.”

Life Education Wessex provides health and drug prevention education to 50,000 children across the Wessex region each year. It is well known for its mobile classrooms and its mascot, Harold the giraffe who the children adore.

Lorraine Hewitt, fundraising manager at Life Education Wessex, commented: “We are delighted with the ongoing support from Humphries Kirk. Without such vital support from the wider community we simply would not be able to continue our early intervention work with children, parents and schools.”

Humphries Kirk assists private and commercial clients with legal matters. The firm has offices in Poole, Bournemouth, Parkstone, Swanage, Wareham, Dorchester and Crewkerne and has an international network of lawyers. Visit www.hklaw.eu for more information.
