This Easter, Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT) has some ‘roar-some’ events lined up for families to enjoy in our visitors centres and nature reserves across Dorset.

On Thursday 5th April (10-4pm) The Kingcombe Centre is celebrating the arrival of Dippy the Diplodocus in Dorset with a dinosaur-themed day, including a treasure hunt looking for hidden Dippy’s amongst our wildflower meadows.  There will also be dippy snacks in the Kingcombe Tea Room, and a life- size dippy skull and other fossil displays. This is a free event with free parking at the Kingcombe Centre, Toller Porcorum. www.kingcombe.org

Over in east Dorset, children and adults can get hands-on with wildlife at the Bournemouth Natural Science Society* (BNSS) open day and wildlife garden workshop on Saturday 14th April from 10am-4pm.  The Great Heath Living Landscape team will be in the garden which is a haven for wildlife in urban Bournemouth, with activities for adults and children.  Entry is £3 per adult and £2 per child (under 5 free).  The museum is open for exploring the fossil collection, the Egyptian collection & astronomy section.

The Fine Foundation Wild Seas Centre in Kimmeridge is holding a ‘SharkStuff Live’ day on Saturday 14th April from 11am – 5pm, to join the experts and learn about sharks in Dorset and beyond.  Enjoy presentations, a live demonstration dissection, displays, then it’s out onto the beach for a beach clean to remove litter which can be deadly to sharks and other marine wildlife. For more information & booking: 01929 481044.  Talk & dissection £3 per adult, £2 per child.

On Friday 30th March at The Fine Foundation Chesil Beach Centre join us from 11am – 12.30pm for the Great Chesil Beach Eggcase Hunt – an egg hunt with a twist!  Find out what a mermaid keeps in her purse and help search for shark and ray eggcases – perhaps there will be some of the chocolate variety! Meet at the Chesil Beach Centre, £2 per child.

At Lorton Meadows in Weymouth, join the Lorton Eggsplorers Trail on Friday 30th March from 10.30 – 4pm.  Collect a trail guide from the Conservation Centre and hunt for clues (30-45 mins) around the reserve to find out about the local wildlife and solve a mystery.  There’s also an edible prize for those who complete it!  £2 per child.  For more details phone 01305 816546.
