A shoplifter who targeted businesses in Bridport has been sentenced.

David Cant, aged 45 and of no fixed abode, appeared at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 20 July 2018 where he admitted eight counts of theft.

Cant was sentenced to four weeks in prison suspended for six months. He was also handed a curfew requirement with electronic monitoring for four weeks.

The offences all occurred between May and July 2018 in Bridport at Waitrose, Lloyd’s Pharmacy and Fat Face. Items stolen included alcohol, meat, clothes and fragrances.

He was arrested by officers in Dorchester.

Police Constable Anthony Elswood, of Bridport police, said: “David Cant’s offending has caused considerable concerns and inconvenience to businesses across the town.

“The neighbourhood policing team is committed to bringing offenders such as Cant before the courts.”
