A man has been charged following an alleged serious injury fail-to-stop collision in Poole.

Dorset Police received a report at 6.07pm on Thursday 16 December 2021 of a collision involving a blue Triumph motorcycle and a pedestrian on the A35 Ringwood Road between the Alderney roundabout and Mountbatten roundabout.

It is reported that the rider and pillion passenger of the motorcycle fled the scene.

The pedestrian – a woman aged in her 30s from the Bournemouth area – was taken to Southampton General Hospital. She is continuing to receive treatment for serious injuries.

A 21-year-old man from Oxfordshire was arrested and has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop following a road traffic collision, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and using a motor vehicle on a road or public place without third party insurance. He is due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Monday 20 December 2021.

A 20-year-old man from the Poole area who was also arrested in connection with the incident has been released without charge and will face no further police action.

Police Sergeant Rhys Griffiths, of the traffic unit, said: “Following a detailed investigation, we have consulted with the Crown Prosecution Service, which authorised the charges.

“I would like to remind the public that this matter is now the subject of active court proceedings and it is important to stress that there should be no commentary or sharing of information online or on social media that could potentially prejudice these proceedings.”
