Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward following an alleged theft and subsequent assault near Dorchester.

It is reported that some time between 6.30pm and 7.30pm on Monday 13 December 2021 a laptop and handbag were stolen from a car parked on Bull Lane in Maiden Newton.

After discovering the reported theft, at around 7.30pm the female victim also noticed suspicious activity nearby.

It is reported that the victim’s partner subsequently located three people acting suspiciously and following a short interaction, he was assaulted. The female victim intervened and was also reportedly assaulted. They did not sustain any serious injuries.

Officers attended and two men, aged 31 and 34, and a 17-year-old boy were arrested in connection with the incident. All three – who are from the Gillingham area – have been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Police Constable Rob Hopper, of Dorset Police, said: “I am carrying out a number of enquiries into this incident and would ask anyone who witnessed what happened to please get in touch.

“I am particularly keen to hear from a man who was walking his dog in the area around the time of the incident and may have important information to help my investigation.”
