Dorset Cricket League Round Up 02/07/22
Premier Division
League Leaders Wimborne & Colehill extended their lead by a further point as they romped to a big win over winless Cattistock & Symene. A magnificant 129 from Ben Brigden along with 88 from Mark House saw the home side finish on 272/5, despite 3 wickets for George Wyrill.
In reply Simon Watkins (5-15) and Harry Montacute (4-27) ripped through the Cattistock & Symene batting line-up as they dismissed the visitors for just 105 in 29.5 overs to seal a 171 run victory.
Second placed Dorchester maintained the pressure at the top as they won their local derby at home to Bere Regis.
Two wickets each for James Dunham (2-22), Jon Legg (2-29) and Simon Mitchem (2-17) helped restrict Bere Regis to 158/8 from their 44 overs, despite 52 from Tim Goodhew.
Following a rain delay which reduced Dorchester’s target to 154 from 41 overs, 3 wickets from Dean Rogerson had Dorchester in a spot of bother at 92-4, but 48 from Seb Carty and 27* for Jon Legg saw the County Town Club to a 5 wicket win with 6 overs to spare.
At the Terraces, Poole Town consolidated their top 3 position with a thrashing of Sherborne.
Joey Wormington lead the way with the ball taking 4 for 18, whilst Scott Bellamy picked up 3 for 20, as Sherborne were skittled out for just 96.
An opening stand of 87 between Alex Allum (48) and Jamie Bennett (36) saw Poole to an 8 wicket win with more than 20 overs to spare.
The big shock of the weekend came at Plush where Puddletown picked up their second victory of the season to pull clear of the bottom of the table – beating Broadstone by 6 wickets.
In a rain affected clash, Puddletown were put into field first but their bowlers soon got stuck into the visitors batting line-up, and a regular flow of wickets meant that Broadstone struggled to build momentum, with none of their batsmen making it beyond 23.
Adam Weir and Robert Snow finished up with 3 wickets each as Broadstone closed on 157/8.
Another rain delay reduced Puddletown’s target to 139 from 29 overs. Robert Snow continued his memorable match by top scoring with 48, and he was backed up by 38 from captain Adam Barrett as Puddletown cruised to their target in just 22.4 overs.
At Lower Ashton Farm, Martinstown bounced back from defeat at Poole last week with a comfortable win over Christchurch.
Ed Nichols (60), Lee House (56) and Sam Kershaw (51*) did most of the damage with the bat as Martinstown set Christchurch 268 for the win.
Christchurch got off to a decent start in reply and made it to 59-1 before the wickets began to tumble. Joint captain Charlie Durrant took 4 for 36 to help bowl Christchurch out for 154 in 36.4 overs and wrap up a 113 victory for the home side.
Division 1
In the big battle between the top two Witchampton came out on top with an 87 run victory at Blandford.
Witchampton posted 233/5 thanks in large part to a superb 133 from Sam Platter. He was backed up by 69 from Joly Stevens.
Blandford got off to a good start in reply and things were looking good for them at 57-0, but then Marc Hayter tore through the batting line-up with a sensational 6 for 37, and Sam Platter capped off a memorable day personally with 3 for 32 as Blandford were bowled out for 129 in 26.5 overs.
Poole Town Seconds moved above Blandford into second place after Compton House scratched their planned match.
Hamworthy Recration racked up a huge win over Swanage after making 349/5. Jack Satterley top scored with 91 whilst Elliot Dawson also made 71.
Swanage’s opening pair Mike Nash (33) and Charlie Dyke (34) got the reply off to a good start but Zack Basey did most of the damage with the ball taking 4 for 28. Cam Basey also picked up 3 for 31 and Jack Satterly 2 for 29, as Swanage were bowled out for 179 in 38 overs.
Wimborne & Colehill Seconds won a low scoring game at Marnhull. The visitors were restricted to 178/9 with Ashley Young taking 5 for 22. Jack Bassett top scored with 37.
Wimborne & Colehill’s bowlers were in even better form though with Harry Reynolds picking up 5 for 12 and Jack Bassett 4 for 25 as Marnhull were all out for 121.
There was a run fest on Portland which saw Portland Red Triangle beat Stalbridge by 7 wickets.
The visitors batted first and 113 from George Coleman helped them set Portland a daunting 272 for the win
Portland looked to be in trouble early on at 34/2, but a 196 run partnership between Matt Randell (112) and Rich Samuel (84*) saw Red Triangle knock the runs off with 4 overs to spare.
Division 2
Division 2 leaders Beaminster maintained their position with a hard fought 21 run at home to Shaftesbury.
The home side were dismissed for just 149 with Rob Hatchard (4-17) and Mark Lewis (3-26) dominating with the ball. But 35 runs from Ben Golledge and 33 from Simon Jones would prove decisive.
Jack Ronan was the pick of the Beaminster bowlers with 4 for 14, whilst Ross Baker and Adrian Phillips picked up 2 wickets apiece as Shaftesbury were bowled out for just 128 with only 3 batsmen making it to double figures.
Second placed Chalke Valley closed the gap on the leaders with a maximum points win at Parley.
An unbeaten 92 from Glenn Willoughby helped Chalke Valley to 244/8, before their bowlers took charge after the interval.
Joe Weld (3-13), Harry Hitchings (2-29), Martin Clements (2-25) and Josh Goodchild (2-36) ripped through the hosts batting line-up and had them all out for 121, as Chalke Valley won by 123 runs.
Charlton Down moved up to third place with a 101 run win at home to Corfe Mullen.
An unbeaten 52 from Matt Stevens, along with 44 from Nick Voss helped the hosts to 211/7.
In reply Corfe Mullen’s batsmen were unable to repeat last week’s heroics as they were dismissed for just 110 in 31 overs. Dan Stevens picked up 3 for 32, whilst there were 2 wickets each for Sam Roles, Matt Stevens and Joe Taylor.
In the big battle towards the bottom of the table, Sturminster & Hinton came out on top with a 66 run victory at Shillingstone.
Opener Laurence Moore top scored for the visitors with 72 as they were dismissed for 197, with David Lockyer taking 4 for 20.
Chris Job (3-21) and Will Tremlett (3-19) did most of the damage with the ball as the hosts reply never really got going as they were all out for 131.
Weymouth eased to victory against neighbours Dorchester Seconds.
Despite 40 for Dave Gray, Dorchester struggled with the bat and were dismissed for 156. Shafeek Urumancheri picked up 3 for 15, and there were 2 wickets apiece for Harry Mitchell and Rob Townley.
An unbeaten 54 for Tom England and 43 for Lloyd Beals helped Weymouth ease to a 7 wicket victory with 16 overs to spare.
Division 3
Division 3 leaders Cerne Valley saw their home game with Hamworthy Recreation seconds abandoned, and that allowed second placed Broadstone seconds to close the gap with a 6 wicket win at home to Sherborne seconds.
Sherborne set the hosts 223 for the win thanks to 65 from Dan Baker and 50 from Adam Smith. But a big hitting 87* from Ieuan Weir along with 50 for Owen Parkin helped Broadstone to victory with 6.3 overs remaining.
Poole Town Thirds came out on top in a thriller with Abbotsbury.
Poole set Abbotsbury 218 to win, with Craig Rochford top scoring with an unbeaten 45. Sean Norsworthy proved a real thorn in the side of the batsmen taking 5 for 35.
Despite 56 for Kynan Brian, Poole’s bowlers chipped away at the wickets column and bowled Abbotsbury out for 209, sealing a nail-biting 8 run victory.
Kingston Lacy picked up a big win over Martinstown Seconds thanks in large part to a superb 122 from Nick Lewis as the home side racked up a mammoth 283/7 in 40 overs.
Steve Gerety and Dave Trotter both surpassed their half centuries in reply, but Martinstown were bowled out for 175 with James Holton picking up 3 for 37.
Bere Regis seconds won a thriller with Cattistock & Symene by 3 wickets.
Garry King picked up 4 for 26 and Joel Curtis 3 for 33, but 54 from Rueben Kingston helped the visitors to 167/9.
Tom Swain top scored with 61 for Bere Regis as they got home with 3 overs to go.
Division 4
Royal Challengers Sports maintained their spot at the top of the table with a 135 run win at Bradford Abbas.
Tyson Luis top scored for RCS with 72, as they were bowled out in just 33 overs, but they’d managed to score at a good rate. Dan Rigden took 3 for 30 as Bradford Abbas were set 222 for victory.
RCS’ bowlers made light work of Bradford Abbas in reply, with 3 wickets each for E John and Ashish Sharma, and 2 apiece for Binoy Devasia and Jiju Thomas seeing the home side skittled out for just 86 in 19.2 overs.
Swanage Seconds won at home to Marnhull Seconds by 36 runs.
The Swans were indebted to Jonathan Gregory (60) and Simon Goldsack (50) for being the bedrock of their innings as they were bowled out for 219, with Ritchie Baker taking 3 for 27.
James Hurding was the pick of the bowlers for the Swans with 3 for 20 as Marnhull were dismissed for 183. Sam Barnes top scored for them with 44.
Wareham thrashed Ashmore by 126 runs. Their top 3 were all in the runs as Matt Truman (92), Martin Upshall (67) and Harry Wright (57) helped their side to 254/4.
The wickets were shared around with 2 for Neil Prince and one each for Isaac Prince, Joe Winks, Chris Rabjohns, Matt Truman and Harry Wright.
Winton won by 39 runs away to Wimborne & Colehill Thirds.
Shams Khan top scored with an unbeaten 65, as despite 4 wickets for Henry Bogger they racked up 205/9.
3 wickets apiece for Masum Ahmed and Caitlin Chissell saw Wimborne bowled out for 166.
Division 5
Cheselbourne made light work of Wimborne & Colehill Fourths, bowling them out for just 71. Chris Ascott (3-15) and Toby Kelly (3-16) did most of the damage with the ball before Cheselbourne eased home by 8 wickets.
Witchampton Seconds thrashed Portland Red Triangle Seconds by a massive 213 runs to move clear at the top of the division.
Two magnificent centuries from Ryan Allaway (105*) and John Burbridge (101) helped the Witches rack up 275/2, before their bowlers skittled out the visitors for just 62.
George Vessey was the pick of the bowlers taking 3 for 7, whilst Aaron Allaway and Eli Cull picked up 2 each.
Division 6
eymouth Seconds maintained their 100% winning record at the top of the table with a 179 run win at Cattistock & Symene Thirds.
Mark Rogers top scored for Weymouth with 66 as they posted 236/8, before their bowlers made light work of the home batsmen.
Tom Chedzoy was the man of the moment picking up 5 for 11 as Weymouth skittled out their hosts for just 57.
Swanage thirds leapfrogged Parley fourths after an 86 run win in a high scoring contest.
The Swans set Parley a daunting 279 to win from 40 overs after David Alcock hit an unbeaten 92, whilst Tim Ives hit 72 and Matt Dunster 54, despite 4 wickets for Parley’s Rob Franks.
Parley opener Nihar Reshamwala top scored with 48 in the reply, as the Swan’s bowlers shared the wickets around. Renier De Kock picked up 3 for 24, whilst Sam Marks, Dylan Church and Ethan Stacey picked up 2 wickets each as Parley finished on 192/9.
Elsewhere Lychett moved up to second place with a 7 wicket win at Bournemouth Fifths after being set 105 to win. Tom Havelock took an impressive 4 for 9 before Lytchett’s top order shared the workload to see their side home.
Division 7
Verwood Thirds beat Broadstone Fourths by 8 wickets to move up to second in the table.
Jack Morgan scored 100 for Broadstone as they set Verwood 175 for the win, which they eased to in just 30 overs thanks mostly to 51 from Ryan Webber and an unbeaten 84 from Matt Tachell.
