A new look for Weymouth Gateway site

Andy Kirkby’s scheme of public art – funded by New Look and Sainsbury’s and supported by Weymouth & Portland Borough Council – has been installed at the Weymouth Gateway site and an unveiling event for the three sculptures will take place on the afternoon of 16 July 2014.

Around 60 guests have been invited to the event including voluntary, public and private sector partners and press. The event will take place at New Look’s offices in Mercery Road, Weymouth, Dorset DT3 5HJ. Parking will be available in New Look offices’ car park.

Paul Atterbury, local resident, writer and BBC Antiques Roadshow expert will be joining the Mayor ofWeymouth & Portland, Cllr Kate Wheller to cut the ribbons on each of the three artworks.

A Routemaster bus has been hired to transport guests and the unveiling party between sites for the ribbon cutting and photo opportunities.

The following people will be in the Mayoral Reception / Unveiling Party to meet the Mayor and her consort, Mr Michael Wheller:

Paul Atterbury (BBC Antiques Roadshow expert), and Mrs Chrissie Atterbury

Andy Kirkby (Artist) and Mrs Sandy Kirkby

Cllr Rachel Rogers (Borough council Briefholder for Culture and Tourism)

Cllr Ian Bruce (Borough council Briefholder for Community Facilities)

Nicky Whittenham (Public Art Consultant and Project Manager)

Sue McLaughlin (New Look – Facilities Manager)

Brendan Moran (Deputy Store Manager – Sainsbury)

Schedule for the day (including opportunities for Press (in bold):

1300  Reception Party / Press to arrive at New Look Offices for interviews  

1345  Reception Party to gather in foyer of New Look Offices, Mercery Road

1350  Mayor to arrive and to meet Reception Party in foyer

1400  Guests arrive and collect name badge / booklet / water at desk and embark bus

1410  Unveiling Party embarks bus for ‘Frame’ / Press & Community liaison on bus trip     

1415  ‘Frame’: Unveiling Party to disembark / photo-shoot / ribbon cutting

1430  ‘Under the Hill’: Unveiling Party to disembark / photo-shoot / ribbon cutting

1445  ‘Torpedosaur’: Unveiling Party to disembark / photo-shoot / ribbon cutting

1500  Guests and Press to re-embark / return to New Look office for canapés & drinks.

1515  Nicky Whittenham to do housekeeping and introduce herself.
