“The Government were happy to clap us from the safety of their doorsteps during the pandemic, but now it would appear they want us to consider the impact our action will have on patients. I couldn’t have expressed our feelings better myself….

The government wants nursing/healthcare staff to ‘Consider the impact a strike will have on patients’.

I want the government to consider how years of real time pay cuts has resulted in a nursing vacancy rate of 50 of over 50,000 and how this directly affects patient safety and care.

I want the government to consider how their actions and inactions have forced us to the point of industrial action.

Don’t you dare gaslight us.

Don’t you dare imply that we are the ones who will compromise patient safety if we strike, when every single nurse can give you examples of this happening on a daily basis.

Don’t you dare create a narrative that because we are a caring profession we should put up and shut up.

We are angry, we are tired, we are overworked and overwhelmed but we will not stop fighting for our profession and for the safety of our patients. We have to because we know that you don’t and you won’t.
