Bus passengers travelling in-and-around Canford Heath are to benefit from a special fare from Saturday 1 July – thanks to a partnership between Morebus and BCP Council.

Morebus will offer a day return ticket for £2.50 for adults or children on its 25, 26 and 18 routes under the initiative, which has been made possible by BCP Council’s successful bid for £8.9m of funding from Government to improve bus services in the area.

“We have made a number of improvements to these routes in recent weeks – including an increase in frequency to the 18 route to every half an hour and added a Sunday service,” said Morebus general manager, Richard Wade.

“The main aim is to encourage more people to leave their cars at home and choose public transport instead. Making this positive lifestyle change can go a long way to improving congestion in our region, so we are pleased to be working with BCP Council on this scheme.”

Available only through the Morebus app, the £2.50 day return fare is a special offer, which will be in place for 12 months. It can be used anywhere along 25, 26 and 18 routes – and is valid exclusively on these services.

“The Morebus app is a great way to get tickets – but it has many other useful functions,” added Richard. “People can check for service updates, plan their journeys, mark bus stops or routes as their favourites, track exactly where their bus is at any given time, and even see how much Co2 they are saving, compared to driving.

“Our team is looking forward to welcoming more customers on-board during the course of this initiative, paving the way to less-congested roads across these routes.”

Councillor Vikki Slade, leader of BCP Council, with particular responsibility for local partnerships added:
“We are really pleased to have secured a sizable grant to support our bus services from central government, which means we can offer a tangible improvement to people’s transport choices.

“I am often asked about improving local public transport and making it a more attractive travel option for residents. As part of our Bus Service Improvement Plan and our commitment to encouraging sustainable travel, we want to increase the number of people choosing to travel by bus. Investing in schemes like this, with the help of central government funding, certainly helps us to deliver that goal and we will continue to explore other opportunities.”

‘We will continue to apply for funding to support more bus routes so that every community in BCP can access public transport more easily.”

The three routes included under the new initiative are:

25 Poole, Canford Heath, Tollerford Park
26 Poole, Canford Heath, Tower Park
Both these services run up to every 10 minutes, combined Monday to Saturday – and half hourly on Sunday.

18 Bournemouth, Westbourne, Upper Parkstone, Canford Heath, Waterloo Estate, Broadstone.

This service runs up to every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday – and hourly on Sunday.
