Daisy Goodwin, a renowned novelist and TV producer, has made an accusation against a Conservative mayoral candidate, claiming that he groped her a decade ago. According to Ms. Goodwin, Daniel Korski, who was a special adviser to David Cameron at the time, sexually assaulted her by touching her breast during a meeting at 10 Downing Street in 2013.

In response, Mr. Korski vehemently denied the allegation, stating his denial in the strongest terms possible. Ms. Goodwin, the creator of the popular ITV drama Victoria, disclosed that she had met Mr. Korski, who was then a government special adviser, to discuss a proposed TV show.

Ms. Goodwin recounted the incident to the Times, explaining that she initially met Mr. Korski at a social event where he suggested they meet again. During their meeting, Mr. Korski arrived late and made comments about her sunglasses, comparing her to Monica Bellucci, the Italian actress who had recently appeared as an older Bond woman opposite Daniel Craig. Ms. Goodwin found this behaviour “awkwardly flirtatious” and “odd.”

According to Ms. Goodwin, during the meeting, Mr. Korski positioned his feet on the edge of her chair, leaning back in a way that exposed his crotch. At the end of the meeting, when they both stood up and approached the door, Mr. Korski allegedly put his hand on Ms. Goodwin’s breast. She reacted with astonishment and loudly questioned his actions. Mr. Korski quickly moved away, and she left the room.

A spokesperson for Mr. Korski, responding on his behalf, categorically denied any inappropriate behavior, emphasizing his denial in the strongest possible terms. In a WhatsApp message to his supporters, Mr. Korski expressed his disappointment at being connected to such an allegation after so many years. He firmly denied the claim, mentioning that nothing was raised at the time or seven years ago when it was alluded to. Mr. Korski also acknowledged that denying the allegation may not alleviate concerns, but he assured his commitment to ensuring safety on London’s streets and standing against misconduct and harassment.

The Conservative Campaign Headquarters declined to comment on the matter when approached. Ms. Goodwin had previously spoken out about the assault in 2017 without revealing the alleged assailant’s name. However, she chose to identify Mr. Korski now, as he is running to be the Conservative candidate for the London mayoral contest.

Speaking to the BBC, Ms. Goodwin expressed her hope that her example would encourage other women to come forward, emphasising that no woman should endure such behaviour. Mr. Korski is one of the three shortlisted candidates for the Conservative Party in the upcoming mayoral election, where Sadiq Khan will be running for a third term as mayor. Mr. Korski’s campaign focuses on enhancing public services through technology, with a particular emphasis on digitalisation.
