Officers are appealing for the public’s help to identify the owner of a dog that bit a woman in Poole.

At around 1.30pm on Thursday 23 April 2020 the victim – a woman aged in her 60s – was walking her dog at the Sea View viewpoint on Constitution Hill. As she approached the car park a dog, which was not on its lead, ran toward her and began barking at her dog. It then knocked into the victim’s dog, causing it to fall to the ground and yelp as if in pain. It was reported that as the victim went to pick her dog up the other dog bit her lower arm, causing four puncture wounds.

The dog’s owner came over to retrieve his dog and asked if the victim was all right. She replied that she was not as she had just been bitten by his dog. He then walked away without leaving his details.

A paramedic who was in the area at the time of the incident came over to help the victim and administered first aid. The victim then attended hospital to have a tetanus injection.

The victim’s dog sustained a split ear in the incident.

The dog’s owner is described as a white man, around six feet tall, of a broad build and in his mid to late 30s. He is described as having short, brown hair, which is shaved at the sides, tattooed legs, and was wearing shorts and a T-shirt. His dog is described as a dark-coloured Staffordshire Bull Terrier or Rottweiler-type breed.

Police Constable Riona Hanley, of Dorset Police, said: “This incident left the victim with a very nasty injury and I am keen to speak to the owner of the dog involved in order to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

“I would urge the owner of the dog, or anyone who has information as to his identity, to please get in touch.

“I believe there were a number of other people out walking nearby at the time and I would ask anyone who witnessed the incident to contact Dorset Police.”
