Let’s start with Bryan Cranston:
Apple has confirmed it is working to fix a bug in its iPhone speech-to-text feature that temporarily interprets the word “racist” as “Trump” before autocorrecting itself. The issue has sparked outrage among supporters of former US President Donald Trump and conservative commentators.
The glitch came to light after iPhone users began sharing videos on social media demonstrating the error. When using the voice dictation feature and saying the word “racist,” the text initially displayed “Trump” before being replaced with the correct word.
In a statement on Tuesday, an Apple spokesperson said, “We are aware of an issue with the speech recognition model that powers dictation, and we are rolling out a fix today.” The company explained that the speech recognition models behind the feature may initially display words with phonetic similarities before further analysis corrects the text to match the user’s intended word.
Apple clarified that the bug was incorrectly suggesting “Trump” in response to several words containing the consonant “r.” The tech giant emphasised that the issue was not intentional and is being resolved.
This incident highlights the challenges tech companies face in ensuring their algorithms remain neutral and free from unintended biases.
How many Trump supporters will stop eating apples now?
