Officers investigating an unprovoked assault on a man in Sturminster Newton are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

At around 8.35pm on Saturday 30 October 2021 the victim – a local man aged in his 40s – was walking his dog along the trailway when he was approached from behind by two male young people.

It is reported that they hit him on the head causing him to fall to the floor, before running off.

The victim sustained swelling to his head and was very shaken up following the incident.

Police Community Support Investigator Kayleigh Hole, of North Dorset police, said: “This was an unprovoked assault and we will be doing all we can to identify those responsible.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed what happened or saw any suspicious activity in the area to please come forward.

“We do not tolerate violence in our communities and would appreciate any information from the public that may help our enquiries.”
