Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council is working with Christchurch Town Council to plan for the ongoing operation of Quomps Splashpark on Christchurch Quay.

The much-loved attraction, which features an enclosed splash park, paddling pool and water fountains, provides an ideal location for parents to take young children during warmer months.

The facility has been owned and operated by BCP Council since 2019, but was originally built and opened by Christchuch Borough Council in 2010.

With significant financial pressures facing BCP Council in the 2023/24 financial year, a collaborative approach has been taken with Christchurch Town Council to plan for the park’s upkeep, maintenance and future management.

Councillor Andy Hadley, Portfolio Holder for Climate Response, Environment and Energy and BCP Council, said:

“Given the economic pressures on the council, we are having to make difficult decisions to protect our vital services.

“From the outset, we were keen to work proactively alongside our partners and we have made good progress toward the shared goal of protecting the splash park.

“I remember playing at the park during my own childhood, so completely understand its importance to local Christchurch residents as well as those further afield.”

BCP Council continues to work toward closing a £50 million funding gap, incorporating feedback and ideas collated from residents through its 2024/25 Budget Consultation, which closed on 20 December 2023.

James Atkinson, acting Town Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer at Christchurch Town Council, added:

“Christchurch Town Council understands the importance of the Quomps Splashpark to the local community. After learning of its potential closure, we have been working hard to enable its future management.

“We are investigating how the splash park can be operated in a sustainable manner, so that this much-loved community asset can be enjoyed by future generations.”
