Beer and Bluegrass Festival

Friday 24th July 6pm to 11.30pm and Saturday 25th Noon to 11.30pm

St Aldhelms Hall  Poole Road  Branksome Poole Dorset BH12 1AD

“ We wanted to go back to a time when small festivals were fun and we have carefully selected

a line up of great musicians who have that down home vibe and play good time Bluegrass and   Americana, all played with verve and a smile, we think you will love it “

The highlight on Friday night is the wonderful Lindsay Lou and the Flatbellys from Michigan USA for their first UK tour. Expect lush harmonies with a great Bluegrass resonating drive that typifies their unique sound. They are fresh from releasing Iona recorded using vintage equipment from which the standout track “ The River Jordan “ is a masterpiece on which  Lindsay’s vocal soars, against the dark mahogany accompaniment of the Flatbellys, …magnificent.

Hill Folk Noir are Travis and Alison Ward with Mike Waite from Boise Idaho USA.

Their rollicking roadhouse, good time stomp is deeply infectious. They draw from a sepia toned Grapes of Wrath America with half forgotten dustbowl songs depicting gamblers, gangsters, whisky stills and loose women, all very fine topics. It’s a music that is just made for dancing and drinking beer, two very good reasons why we are very pleased to have them with us.

For such a young band, Flats and Sharps cut an experienced swagger, they quote the Delmore

Brothers, the Louvin Brothers and of course Flats and Scruggs as major influences and it’s not hard

to see why. Authentic four part harmonies combined with strong individual instrumental skills and buckets of charm, these lads will be huge, every time I have seen this band they have brought the house down and this will be no different !

The Mountain Firework Company with front man Gareth McGahan, have already a built up a impressive following both here in the UK and also the US. Their reputation has rapidly grown since their release of their second album The Lonesome Losing Blues, which is full of strong and memorable songs. They have been called ‘Folkgrass’ and comparisons and with the Waterboys and Ronnie Lane’s Slim Chance are inevitable, but spot on. It’s all makes ideal music for long lazy summer days.

Red Rooster Moving Co from Portland Oregon USA visit us by way of Rome, ramblers by nature

This trio have a romping repertoire of Americana and rural blues to shake the dust off your traveling shoes and have a rollicking good time into the bargain

Also appearing – Medicine Bend – New Hawleans Jug Band and – Bow Legged Skeeters
