Weymouth & Portland Borough Council have organised an evening seminar at Weymouth Pavilion on Monday 29 June to launch a two-year arts development initiative.
Over the next two years the borough council will be offering local artists, from a range of disciplines, access to specialist advice in order to help them make applications to the Arts Council for funding.
Research has indicated that the borough generates a relatively low number of applications to the Arts Council’s ‘Grants for the Arts’ funding scheme. The borough now has an opportunity to build capacity in the sector and draw more grant funding into the area.
A range of specialists will be available over the coming months to hold one-to-one mentoring sessions with local artists and aid them in writing strong funding bids.
The event will be an opportunity to view presentations from the Arts Council and also enable the borough council to learn from participants about potential new projects that would benefit from funding.
Cllr Jason Osborne, Weymouth & Portland Borough Council’s Briefholder for Tourism and Culture and Harbour, said: “This event is a great opportunity for aspiring artists of all ages to learn how they can gain funding for the exciting projects and concepts they may have in mind.”
