The test of anyone’s mettle is when they turn out wind, rain, freeze or shine to do something they are passionate about. On Sunday last no-one could cast even a shadow of doubt over the stallholders at Bournemouth Community Green Fair held at the Castlepoint shopping centre in Bournemouth.
In a bitter wind, a semi subterranean location where the footfall was next to nothing and leaden grey skies Samantha Monks, Bodger John, Julie Woodward, Folk duo Freeplay and Moss Patrick set up their stalls in the shadow of the mammonite monolith that is Castlepoint Retail Park.
Bodger John (who’s far from a bodger) put on a skilled display of wood turning on a foot powered self built lathe, Julie Brown had an impressive array of wholesome dog snacks at very reasonable prices, Samantha promoted fair trade goods, Moss ran a workshop for people to make dreamcatchers, and Freeplay provided free music that kept up everyone’s spirits
One or two hardy souls from the shopping public did look by and judging by the smiles liked what they saw.
With great people like these a fairer, just more sustainable world can’t be far away now.
