– Bournemouth Town Centre BID collaborates with Bournemouth Borough Council & other partners to launch a series of green initiatives throughout the first week of April

Tuesday 2nd April until Friday 5th April 2019 will mark the first ‘Green Week’ in Bournemouth as Bournemouth Town Centre BID will reveal several projects which will be implemented to benefit local traders and the environment from April onwards.

Starting on the 2nd April, a new partnership with Bournemouth-based companies Clean Energy UK, Green Wing Energy Solutions and Daylight Energy will provide all Town Centre BID levy payers with the opportunity to have a free consultation on how to reduce the cost of their energy bills by installing energy saving products and switching to 100% renewable energy in the process. The Bournemouth Town Centre BID’s own offices now run on 100% renewable energy and are seeing real savings.

Jon Fletcher, Managing Director of Clean Energy UK said:

“We’re pleased to be collaborating with Bournemouth Town Centre BID. Clean Energy UK’s mission is to enable all businesses to go 100% renewable and save money too. This partnership provides a great opportunity for the town centre”

Wednesday 3rd April sees the return of the Big Bournemouth Clean Up, with businesses including McDonald’s, Sharkeys, Yorkshire Building Society, Sketchers, Bh2, Avius, Bournemouth 7s and Specsavers joining Town Centre BID employees and Town Centre Rangers to tackle litter hotspots across the town centre.

The following day, Thursday 4th April, a new partnership with Bournemouth company, 1st Waste Management, will launch providing levy payers with advantageous rates for their commercial waste management. Through this partnership, it is hoped that more businesses will benefit from lower waste management costs whilst also encouraging local traders to take a greater degree of responsibility for their own waste.

Richard Groome of 1st Waste Management said:

“1st Waste Management relishes the chance to be able to support our local traders through this new collaboration with the Town Centre BID. We look forward to supporting levy payers across the town centre in reducing their waste management costs.”

On Friday 5th April, Green Week sees the announcement of a deep clean across Bournemouth town centre in collaboration with Bournemouth Borough Council. Using state-of-the-art hot washers, areas of the town centre including Old Christchurch Road, Westover Road, Commercial Road and the Square will be cleaned, and chewing gum removed.

Larry Austin, Service Director at Bournemouth Borough Council said:

“As Bournemouth Town Centre continues to progress and grow, it’s pivotal that we ensure existing areas of Bournemouth are kept to the same standards as these new developments. The deep clean across the town centre organised and managed by the BID complements the Council’s cleansing activities and will help ensure this happens”

Martin Davies, Chair of Bournemouth Town Centre BID said:

“April’s Green Week highlights the power of partnerships and what can be achieved when local businesses and authorities work together. Our hope is that these partnerships will benefit our levy payers financially, whilst also creating a more attractive, eco-friendly and sustainable trading environment.”

Bournemouth Town Centre BID is an independent, not-for-profit company with a voluntary board of directors drawn from a range of businesses in the BID area. To find out more about the Bournemouth Town Centre BID, visit www.towncentrebid.co.uk.
