An eight-year-old boy was so moved when he saw a homeless person on the street he decided to do something about it and is raising hundreds of pounds.

Theo Makariou, from Ringwood, is doing a sponsored cycle, despite only recently learning how to ride a bike.

Already £500 has been pledged and the final total will be donated to the Bournemouth Churches Housing Association (BCHA) for its homeless shelter.

The youngster has been practising hard for his 10 mile ride that will follow the Castleman Trailway from Ringwood to Colehill.

Hi parents, Jon and Diane, are very proud of their son who has driven the whole endeavour by himself.

Diane said: “During a visit to Southampton Theo met a homeless man and gave him 20p from his wallet.

“A few nights later, he woke up feeling very sad thinking about the homeless man and wanted to help him and raise some money.

“At first he thought about selling some of his books but after talking to us he came up with the idea of a sponsored cycle ride.

“Theo has not been cycling for long and he felt that a ten mile cycle would be a challenge, but one worth doing if it raised some money for the homeless.

“He has spent each weekend since the beginning of April practising for his ride.”

The ride takes place on June 14.
