Bridport Carer Who Raped A Woman In Her 80’s Jailed

A carer who sexually assaulted a woman in her own home in the Bridport area has been jailed.

Angelo Regis, aged 37 and of Bridport, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday, 31 January 2025, after admitting charges of attempted rape, sexual assault by penetration, and sexual assault by touching.

He was sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison and was placed on the sex offenders’ register for an indefinite period.

The defendant was working as a care assistant at the time of the offending on Monday, 3 June 2024.

He visited the victim, a woman aged in her 80s, at her home as part of her care package during the morning. When she went to the bathroom, he locked the front door before following her.

Regis then sexually assaulted his victim in the bathroom before attempting to rape her in her bedroom.

The vulnerable victim reported the incident to police two days later, and Regis was arrested on Thursday, 6 June 2024.

He denied the offences in the interview, and detectives subsequently obtained DNA evidence linking him to the offence. He was charged the following day.

Detective Constable Lucy Johnson, of Dorset Police County Safeguarding Hub, said, “I want to thank the victim for her support during this investigation and praise her for the strength she has shown in coming forward and reporting this matter.

“Angelo Regis took advantage of his position and the vulnerabilities of his victim to subject her to a truly terrifying and horrific sexual assault.

“I hope this case demonstrates that we will do all we can to investigate offences of this nature and hold offenders accountable for their actions and that we will ensure victims are fully supported throughout.

“I also want to thank the Crown Prosecution Service and partner agencies for their continued support during the police investigation and prosecution.”
