Bournemouth Library will be celebrating the first National Music Libraries Day on Saturday 8 February 2014 with a free programme of live music.

Residents are encouraged to come to the event which runs from 10am to 3pm with highlights of the day including:

  • ‘Dance Time!’ a 1940s social dance with Pavilion Dance South West;
  •  Flashmob  ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ with Bournemouth Symphony Chorus and Youth Chorus members;
  • Music by members of Wessex Youth Orchestra;
  • Flute Choir;
  • And entertainment by members of the Orchestra of the Bournemouth Philharmonic Society.

The monthly library music quiz will also take place on the day with the chance to win tickets to see either a Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra concert, a live screening of the Bolshoi Ballet’s “The Golden Age”, a Bournemouth Chamber Music Society concert or taster dance classes courtesy of Pavilion Dance.

Councillor Lawrence Williams, Cabinet Member for Tourism, Leisure & Culture, said:

“This special music day is a great opportunity for everyone to enjoy the varied events, meet talented musicians and use the extensive music services at Bournemouth Library.”

From Saturday 8 toSaturday 15 February, library users can also enjoy a special two-for-one offer to borrow music CDs and music DVDs.
