A new programme has launched to recruit social workers which you can apply for through Dorset Council.

The ‘Step Up’ to Social Work programme is a 14-month training course, which offers hands-on experience of working in a real-life social work role through placements in the Dorset Council area, whilst undertaking the qualification.

This is a great opportunity to receive support while training to start a new career in social work. The Department for Education covers the cost of university tuition and provides a tax-free bursary of £19,833, paid over the duration of the programme.

The Department for Education is committed to supporting children and families, and it is our ambition that every child and family has access to an excellent social worker if they need one. We want to make social work a career that more people can aspire to and that talented people with a sense of purpose can achieve.

Councillor Andrew Parry, Portfolio Holder for Children, Education and Early Help, said: ‘We are delighted to be continuing the support provided for our children and young  people to increase the number of social workers across Dorset via the Step Up to Social Work programme’.

‘The programme’s track record in generating more social workers is well recognised but it only runs once every two years, so don’t miss your chance to apply. We want to encourage applications from anyone who has experience of working with children and is keen to help make Dorset the best place to be a child.’

The programme is open to people in the Dorset Council area with a 2:2 degree qualification or equivalent. The programme is run through the Department for Education and is dependent on Government funding. Find out about eligibility and how to apply here.

The closing date for applications is Friday 24 March.

We encourage applications from a diverse range of candidates and aim to have a workforce that represents the society that we serve.
