Our staff are currently evacuating residents from the Iford Bridge Home Park.

We were advised by the Environment Agency that at some time tomorrow morning (3rd January), water levels will be similar to those on Christmas Day.  As the exact time that this is likely to occur is difficult to predict, we have proactively leafleted residents, advising them to prepare for an evacuation taking place today (2ndJanuary). This is now underway.

Many residents are expected to stay with family or friends, or to make alternative arrangements themselves, but Council staff are on hand at a temporary reception centre in the nearby Baptist Church, to provide advice. Furthermore, the Council will be making arrangements for comfortable overnight accommodation for those who are unable to do so themselves.

Kim Drake, Silver Incident Lead for the Council said, “We have been able to begin the evacuation in plenty of time, with the benefit of daylight and sufficient hours to spare for residents to pack necessary belongings for a stay away from home.”

She continued, “We have had staff on standby throughout the new year period, and I am pleased that we have been able to mobilise staff quickly today, to ensure a calm and safe site exit for the residents.”

Based on the number evacuated on Christmas Day, it is thought that up to 20 residents may need assistance finding overnight accommodation, although each individual’s need is currently being assessed as part of the evacuation process.
