Ahead of the upcoming local elections Bournemouth Borough Council is hosting two information days for potential candidates to find out more about being a Councillor.
The informal events are designed to give anyone who is considering a future as a Councillor an opportunity to find out more about the role and the responsibilities it involves.
Anyone considering applying to be a Councillor must be 18 years or older and a British citizen or a citizen of another Commonwealth country, the Republic of Ireland or the European Union, as well as a local Government elector, an owner or tenant of any land or property of Bournemouth, or employed in Bournemouth for a minimum of 12 months.
At the events attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about:
· The election and nomination process;
· The role of a Councillor;
· Training and development opportunities available;
· Support available;
· And how the Council makes decisions.
Tony Williams, Chief Executive said; “This is a great opportunity for residents to find out more about being a Councillor. I urge anyone considering applying to come along and find out more about the responsibilities and commitment involved.”
The information events will be on Saturday 31 January, 1:30pm -4:30pm, at the Littledown Centre, Chaseside and Wednesday 4 February, 6pm – 9pm, at the Bournemouth Learning Centre, Ensbury Avenue. These are non-political events and those interested do not need to be affiliated with any political party in order to attend.
Local Council elections for Bournemouth Borough Council will be held on Thursday 7 May 2015.
