We are very pleased to announce that Weymouth & Portland Borough Council have listened to the protests and objections over simple change of use for the North Quay old Council Offices. In a Decision Notice dated yesterday (29th) it informs the developers that “The Council therefore considers that express planning permission is required.”

Cllr Jon Orrell says: This is the decision we pushed for at the public demonstration. We wanted to block the simple change of use that could have happened without full open public planning permission being sought.

Now the developers must come into the open and tell us what they intend. The public can then comment using the planning process and see the planning committee in action in the open.

I will be advocating for a proper redevelopment of the area and improvement of the harbour. I want to see a proper archaeological dig on the important civil war battle site and also social affordable housing included in the scheme. I want to ensure there is adequate parking too.

I am very pleased with this outcome.
I welcome the decision of officers to block the change of use.

Jon
Cllr Orrell
