Disgraced pop star Paul Gadd, better known as Gary Glitter, has been transferred from HMP Verne on Portland to HMP Channings Wood in Devon.
The move comes as part of routine management within the prison system. Gadd, who was convicted of multiple child sex offences, had been serving his sentence at the Verne, a Category C prison known for housing sex offenders. Channings Wood, also a Category C facility, is located near Newton Abbot and accommodates a range of offenders. The prison also includes a unit for treating sex offenders.
While no official reason for the transfer has been given, such relocations are common and may be linked to operational needs, security considerations, or prisoner management. Glitter, once a prominent figure in the music industry and a friend of the likes of Jimmy Savile and Jim Davidson, continues to serve his sentence following his conviction in 2015.
His transfer reignites discussions around the handling of high-profile offenders within the prison system, highlighting ongoing public interest in his case.
