Dividing by Zero

Prime Minister.

I am sure that the UK public would be delighted to know why the Speaker
of the House of Commons appears so inordinately keen to secure the
appointment of an Australian woman to the post of Clerk of the House of
Commons.  When even her present Australian peers are on record as saying
that she would be out of her depth, not being qualified for the proposed
role, and given that Parliament and Whitehall are already known to be
under-performing when it comes to value for money for the taxpayers, I
think it’s fair to ask the following questions and to expect a formal
reply for publication:

1.  Can it be truthfully confirmed that Mr Bercow is not related in any
way to the Australian candidate?
2.  Can it be truthfully confirmed that Mr Bercow is not currently, and
has never been, in a personal relationship with the Australian candidate?
3.  Will you tell us the name of the “shoo-in” corporate or banking
director/Conservative Party major donor who will be gifted the second
post that will be created when the present job is split?
4.  Why does the post pay, at £200,000pa, more than the basic salary of
the Prime Minister?
5.  Where will the money be found to fund the second, equally salaried,
post, given that this government is already facing stiff criticism for
having wasted around £120 BILLION of taxpayers’ money?
6.  Can this government’s Chancellor explain to the public how, in view
of the waste of public funds mentioned above, he can have the utter gall
to demand a further £12 billion in so-called “austerity” cuts?
7.  Will the Ministers and senior civil servants, who have signed off
the projects (mostly abandoned) that have led to the above-mentioned
waste of taxpayers’ money, be actively traced via the paper-trails left
by those projects, and sacked for their incompetence?

The money does come from us, the taxpayers, Prime Minister and it is
therefore our inalienable right to know why it has been wasted in such
an appallingly flagrant manner.  In any private sector concern, was
waste of this magnitude discovered, the culprits would be investigated
not only by their employers’ management, but also by the police, and
then sacked without notice or severance pay.  Also, within any
self-respecting corporation, an internal investigation would be carried
out – if only clandestinely – should a senior member of the staff be
seen to be inexplicably “pushy” about bringing in an outsider who had
been publicly described as unqualified.  As servants of the nation,
those responsible for this disgraceful financial waste within the
government, and with some kind of seemingly personal agenda regarding
personnel appointments, should fare no differently.

Sincerely,

Darren Lynch
