Bournemouth’s dog-friendly business community is celebrating the Chinese Year of the Dog by encouraging visitors to ‘get Lucky’ using the ‘Go Bournemouth Coast’ virtual reality app.

From mid-January to 11 February 2018, the state of the art ‘Go Bournemouth Coast’ augmented reality app will bring a virtual hunt to find ‘Lucky the Dog’ to local businesses. Shoppers will need to find and take selfies with Lucky using the app to be in with a chance of winning a host of family-friendly prizes.

The Chinese New Year is internationally celebrated on the 16 February 2018. According to the Chinese 12-year animal zodiac cycle, this year will be represented by ‘man’s best friend’, the dog. Marking the occasion, the interactive family activity will encourage participants to download the free ‘Go Bournemouth Coast’ app on their smartphone or Android devices and search for the virtual pet.

Participants will need to get out and explore a variety of local dog-friendly businesses to find the cute and cunning canine. Participating businesses will have a poster set up, directing people to the app. People can then scan the logo on the poster and take a photo with Lucky the Dog. To enter the prize competition, people must upload their selfies using the app to Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag #GoBoCoast. They will then enter a draw to win an array of prizes, suitable for people of all ages.

There will also be a variety of dog-friendly themed activities on offer during this period including a charitable dog walk organised by local historian Hattie Miles on Saturday 10 February, commencing at 10 am.

Stefan Krause, Bournemouth Coastal BID Manager, said:

“Celebrating the arrival of Chinese New Year and the Year of the Dog, we are pleased to provide a fun activity for locals and visitors to the area. Bournemouth has a wonderful collection of dog-friendly businesses and the new campaign will highlight and raise awareness for this excellent offering.’’

Clues will be available on the Go Bournemouth Coast App, they will also be available on the Bournemouth Seasons social media pages. Tips and hints on dog locations can be found on associated business pages too.
