A woman has been arrested in connection with a report of shoplifting offences and threats of violence in Weymouth.

It was reported that at around 4pm on Tuesday 31 October 2023 a woman made off from the Asda supermarket in Newstead Road with suspected stolen items. A member of staff reportedly gave chase and caught up with the suspect in the car park of the Weymouth Jobcentre, where the woman allegedly threatened them with a syringe needle.

Following enquiries by officers and a CCTV appeal, a 40-year-old woman from Dorchester was arrested on suspicion of affray. She has been released on police bail as further enquiries are carried out.
