November 12th will see mass mobilisations across the world and put thousands of people on the UK streets to demand Climate Justice in solidarity with the Global Day of Action called by Egyptian groups at COP27.

The Climate Justice Coalition is calling for a UK National Day of Action during the penultimate weekend of COP27 negotiations. In Bournemouth there is a coalition of local ENGOs and community groups, collectively organising a demonstration on the 12th November to protest against governmental inaction.

Organiser Ruby Free, a campaigner and wildlife conservationist said, “Social justice, biodiversity and climate issues are all completely interlinked. This year we’ve seen the most extreme weather events ever recorded, new reports tell us how over 15% of UK species are at risk of extinction and we are living through an unprecedented time of social deprivation and inequality. Transitioning to a renewable, nature positive society is within reach – we have the solutions, we just need the political will and with no drastic change in sight, action must be taken.

Global temperatures are rising.Energy bills, rising. Billionaire’s profits, rising.Nature across the world, declining. From big business bailouts to the licensing of more deadly fossil fuels projects, to trashing nature and cutting our wages the Government is refusing to listen. Their policies both here and globally are causing devastation with working people and people of colour – who have contributed the least to the problem – paying the price with killer famines, floods, crop failures, fires and rising poverty.

This isn’t just being felt in the global south, but also closer to home. Dorset’s people and wildlife are at risk. Dorset’s coastal towns and cities are some of the ‘most at risk’ locations for flooding in the UK when sea levels are predicted to rise. The county’s landscapes and all the biodiversity that inhabits it are unique and diverse, housing some of the most engendered plant and wildlife species.

The Climate Justice Coalition are calling for people to join them, starting at Bournemouth pier at 12pm, then rallying through the Bournemouth gardens towards the town centres’Bournemouth Square, where they will call for action to be taken via speeches, demonstrations, music and art, adding noise to this international day of action.
