FRIDAY 22nd March

Swamp Donkey (Bay Theatre, Weymouth College, Cranford Avenue, Weymouth DT4 7LQ): Students of Weymouth College’s music and performing arts courses present the fruits of their learnings. This showcase features ten bands, MCs, DJs and more, and there’s a matinee performance at 1.30pm (£3 admission), followed by an evening show starting at 7.30pm (£5, £3 concessions).

Amy Mayes Band (Finns, Westham Road, Weymouth DT4 8NU): Funk, soul and Motown from the wonderful Amy and her band.

The Mighty Fine (Royal Exchange, Weston, Portland DT5 2BZ): We expect a dance floor and a mirror ball to be installed as TMF give you funky lumps of Chic, Sister Sledge, Jamiroquai, Shalamar, Michael Jackson and more.

Chris Farlowe (Mr Kyps, Parr Street, Ashley Cross, Lower Parkstone, Poole BH14 0JY): The legendary UK soul shouter graces Dorset with his presence. The Stalbridge Arms Open Mic Night (Stalbridge Arms, Ring Street, Stalbridge DT10 2NF): After the success of the first event, The Stalbridge Arms Open Mic Night is back! All performers are welcome, be it solo acts, duos or bands. This session starts at 9pm, and you’re advised to turn up a little earlier to sign in if you want to take to the stage.

Mojito (Enzee’s Italian Restaurant, Westover Road, Bournemouth BH1 2BZ): Jazz and pop from this sax/vocals duo, here every Friday from 6.30pm.

SATURDAY 23rdMarch

Tom Caulfield Band (The Star, Gloucester St, Dorset DT4 7AW): Tom is joined by George Hall, Ady Milward and me for a night of blues grooves and New Orleans funk.

Blind Harvest (Finns, Westham Road, Weymouth DT4 8NU): This gathering of seasoned veterans of Weymouth’s live music scene take the show to Finns, following their triumphant reunion at the Golden Lion recently.

Lyndon Anderson Band (Dorchester Arts Centre, School Lane, The Grove, Dorchester DT1 1XR): This event is sold out.

Garfield & friends (The Globe Inn, East Street, Weymouth DT4 8BN): Simon ‘Pink Hedgehog’ Felton hosts this weekly session. Music from 5pm

The Sailor’s Jam Session (Sailor’s Return, Nicholas Street, Weymouth DT4 8AD): Mark Stacey hosts this weekly jam session. Music from 8pm.

Solid Gold Duo (Central Hotel, Esplanade, Weymouth DT4 8EB): Pop covers from this duo, here every Sunday night.

MONDAY 25thMarch

FNUK (Beacon Hotel, Beacon Road, Bournemouth BH2 5DB): A weekly funk session featuring some serious jazz/funk heavyweights in Ian Ellis (sax), Gianni Chiarello (guitar), Pat Davey (bass) and Dave Mayne (drums). Music from 8.30pm; free admission.

Mr Bucket (Lazy Lizard, Esplanade, Weymouth DT4 8DG): Toby and Phil are here every Monday night.

Michael Roberts (Hotel Mon Ami, Esplanade, Weymouth DT4 7NN): Saxophones, flute, harmonica and vocals from Michael, here every Monday night.

Tom Caulfield (Boho Bar, St Thomas Street, Weymouth DT4 8EQ): Gritty, blues-infected original material covers from Tom. You can catch him here every Wednesday night.

Kes & Tia’s Open Mic Night (Ropemakers, West Street, Bridport DT6 3QP): A brand-new jam session at the Ropemakers, which will take place on the last Wednesday of future months. If that wasn’t enticement enough, there’s a bowl of chilli for any musician who takes part.

Lazy Lizard Jam Session (Lazy Lizard, Esplanade, Weymouth DT4 8DG): The Lazy Lizard Jam night is fast becoming a fantastic night for musicians to socialise, network and jam. Funkmeisters Cosmic Slop host this weekly session, with full backline provided.

Idiom/Empress/Asbestos (Finns, Westham Road, Weymouth DT4 8NU): Idiom have clocked up appearances at The Bulldog Bash, Blood Stock and Aeon Festivals. Support comes from Empress and Weymouth’s own hardcore heroes Asbestos.

The Mutter Slater Group (The Hayloft, Bull Hotel, East Street, Bridport DT6 3LF): Mutter showcases his brand-new line-up.

Philip Henry & Hannah Martin/Tim Graham (Sunray Folk Club, Broadmayne Village Hall DT2 8EW): This duo has been getting rave reviews having supported Show of Hands on some of their recent concerts. Doors open at 7.30pm; music from 8pm.

 Stompin’ Dave & Professor Oz  (Elm Tree Inn, Hightown Road, Ringwood, Hampshire BH24 3DY): We extend the DMG remit by a mile or two as Dave reunites with his old partner Professor Oz for a night of American Roots music at the Ringwood Folk Club. Lo Numbers (Finns, Westham Road, Weymouth DT4 8NU): Impassioned deliveries of the works of The Kinks, Small Faces, Creation, The Who and more.

Rapport (Weld Arms, East Lulworth, Dorset, BH20 5QQ): Rapport is fronted by Graham Dee, whose remarkable musical career has included session work alongside Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones and playing with the likes of Memphis Slim, John Lee Hooker, Carl Perkins and Van Morrison. Ben Montague (Mr Kyps, Parr Street, Ashley Cross, Lower Parkstone, Poole BH14 0JY): If the name Ben Montague sounds familiar, that would be because you heard his debut single ‘Haunted’ which became a major radio hit two years ago. At the time Ben didn’t have a record deal or an album to his name. Fast forward to 2012 and Ben, with a label behind him, was ready to launch his debut album ‘Tales of Flying and Falling.’ Doors open at 8pm; admission is £10 in advance or £13 on the door.
