Dorset Man Reveals the Benefits of Fasting

Since embarking on my fasting journey and participating in Dry January, I have experienced profound changes in both my body and mind. Here’s a breakdown of the key benefits I’ve discovered:

1. Transformation of the Digestive System

Fasting has completely altered my digestive system. When the body is deprived of constant snacks and excessive food intake, it turns to reserve fat for energy, effectively burning fat and eliminating unhealthy cells. This process also allows the colon to function naturally, reducing the risk of bowel cancer. The body is no longer blocked or backed up, leading to improved digestion and overall gut health.

Our eating habits are primarily a mental challenge. Humans evolved as hunter-gatherers, yet modern society has made us increasingly lazy. We are bombarded with food advertisements, rely heavily on cars, and frequently opt for takeaways instead of preparing nutritious meals. Those in sedentary jobs, especially drivers, often struggle with back pain and weight gain due to inactivity.

Moreover, we consume too many preservatives and not enough natural foods. Giving the digestive system a break through fasting is incredibly beneficial. Even for those who do not exercise regularly, fasting promotes steady weight loss. Water fasting is particularly effective, but for those who struggle, consuming watery fruits can be a helpful alternative. The body thrives on this period of rest, allowing for remarkable internal regeneration.

Even my doctor was initially keen to prescribe medication, but now he acknowledges my body is self-healing through fasting. Observing nature has reinforced this for me. I used to deprive plants of water temporarily before feeding them, and the subsequent surge in energy and vitality was astounding. Our bodies respond in a similar way to fasting.

2. The Impact of Quitting Alcohol

Giving up alcohol has not only saved me £300 per month, but it has also sharpened my mental clarity. I no longer suffer from brain fog and feel significantly more focused. I never considered myself to have a drinking problem—I wasn’t aggressive, rarely got drunk, and never suffered from hangovers. However, the issue was that I had no limits.

Even my doctors were surprised that my high alcohol consumption had not damaged my liver. However, hidden beneath the surface was an overactive bladder. Since fasting and eliminating alcohol, my bladder function has improved dramatically. Previously, I needed the toilet every 20 minutes, but now I go at normal intervals. That bloated sensation and the constant feeling of excess sugar and water in my system have vanished.

Many who drank with me in the past assumed I had prostate issues due to my frequent toilet trips. The truth is, alcohol was wreaking havoc on my system. Cutting it out has allowed me to face my emotions and personal challenges head-on, rather than drowning them in drink. This has been one of the most eye-opening aspects of Dry January.

People often dismiss Dry January as ‘not that difficult’ or question its purpose. In reality, it is challenging—not because of alcohol itself, but because it forces you to confront your emotions without numbing them. I have a deep respect for those who abstain from alcohol entirely, though I do believe that a moderate amount of wine can aid digestion. However, excessive drinking is undoubtedly harmful.

3. The Overall Benefits

In conclusion, I have never felt better. My mind is sharper, and even my ADHD symptoms have improved. I feel more in control, less scattered, and physically cleaner. My health has seen dramatic improvements: when I started, my blood pressure was 161/101; now it’s 127/70. I have lost two stone, become more active, and lowered my cholesterol. My bladder is under control, and brain fog is a thing of the past. I genuinely feel younger.

Previously, alcohol made up over 600 calories of my daily intake—a significant proportion of my diet. Cutting back has changed my perspective entirely. Life is short, and there is no need to rush towards an early grave. Instead, we should focus on creating our own heaven on earth by making healthier choices.

Reducing sugar intake is particularly crucial—sugar is a silent killer. Over the past six months, numerous people have commented on how great I look for my age. As we get older, we should strive to become stronger, not weaker.

I hope my journey has been helpful to others. As always, I am happy to discuss this with anyone. I currently have five people fasting, and they are all thrilled with the results. If you are considering it, I encourage you to give it a try—you may be amazed at what you discover.
