Not quite Royal Ascot or the Grand National at Aintree, but The Children’s Trust At Tadworth Charity Mascot Race, held at Salisbury Racecourse, was as close as it gets for Poole Town Football Club’s mascot Dylan The Dolphin.

Although Dylan was not one of the favourites to win, he strode out onto the course with porpoise, determined to prove he wasn’t a fish out of water, well, more like a mammal, but you know what i mean. Dylan was up against a formidable field such as; Shaun The Sheep, Scotty The Stag, and last years winner Ali Baba the Racehorse, possibly from Sheik Mohammed’s stable.

Dylan started well and led from the start, leaving most of the field in his wake, but as the line drew closer, he began to tire and long for the open waters of Poole Bay. Dylan was finally pipped on the line by Ali Baba, so,  2nd place it is, not bad for an air breathing sea creature on land, and of course, all for a good cause.
