Make the most of Weymouth’s wonderful outdoor spaces with this Easter holidays by trying out some (or all!) of our trails, which can be found in the town’s fabulous parks and gardens.

A variety of free trails are available in the area, located in Lodmoor Country Park, Nothe Gardens and Greenhill Gardens – why not have a go at orienteering, get fit at one of our green gyms, or feel closer to nature by experiencing our wildlife sculpture and tree trails?

If you visit Lodmoor Country Park, you’ll be able to enjoy 22 pieces of outdoor gym equipment around a two-kilometre route. The apparatus is suitable for all age ranges and abilities, is open all year round and, most importantly, it’s free to use! It’s a combination of strength, balance and cardio equipment. Get fit and have fun!

Which tree’s timber is best for making boats? What species of tree was spread by squirrels? And which tree is known as the wizard’s tree?! Discover the answers to these and much more in the Lodmoor Tree Trail – a 45-minute circular walk around the Country Park exploring the trees and the creatures that live in them.

A wildlife discovery sculpture trail can be found in Greenhill Gardens. The trail consists of eight wildlife sculptures carved out of Portland stone by local artist Hannah Soaefer. The sculptures are of Weymouth’s everyday wildlife and are hidden around the gardens. Enjoy strolling through the beautiful Greenhill gardens and finding out more about Weymouth’s local wildlife.

Then, head over to the Nothe Gardens and explore the wooden animal sculpture trail. Starting information is by the play area on the Nothe. Can you spot the bat in the tree? Spy a badger in a bush. Watch out for the giant spider. And finish your trail with a picnic and play on our giant wooden bird!

And if you even wanted to try orienteering, did you know that you can do it for free in Lodmoor Country Park and the Nothe Gardens? Visit the Oriento website to find out more about these courses. There are short and long courses which are appropriate for people of all ages and of varying abilities.

Cllr Colin Huckle, Mayor of Weymouth said: “I would like to encourage people to get out and about and enjoy the fantastic parks and gardens that Weymouth has to offer this Easter. The trails, orienteering courses and outdoor green gym equipment are great ways to experience the town’s outdoor spaces – and they’re free to use for all!”.
