On Saturday, April 21 Fairmile Grange welcomed families, friends and the local community to the Christchurch care home, to commemorate National Care Home Open Day and the Queen’s 92nd birthday.
The ‘Fit For A Queen’ event consisted of a variety of activities, beginning with Christchurch’s local scouts who helped residents feel like royalty, by making crowns and flags. This was then followed by Dorset’s premier female choir the La Nova Singers, who sang a range of beautiful opera and classical themed pieces.
Shortly after, ‘High Tea at 3’ commenced, where residents and visitors were invited to take part in a cake and scone ‘taste off’. The tasty treats were provided by volunteers from Christchurch Community Partnership and the care home.
To round off the fun-filled day Fairmile Grange hosted the talented Christchurch Music Centre, who performed their big band numbers.
Heidi Johnstone, activities coordinator of Fairmile Grange, said: “Everyone at Fairmile Grange had such a lovely time celebrating the Queen’s birthday. We have many royalists living in the home, so it was wonderful to see our residents so excited during the build-up and the day itself.
“We would like to say a massive thank you to all those who came along and got involved in making the day even more special for our residents. Bringing the community closer together and building relationships is something we believe is very important. The crowns and flags made everyone involved feel like royalty, the cakes and scones went down a treat and the music left smiles on everyone’s faces.
“There are many more exciting activities and events scheduled in the diary for the rest of the year at Fairmile Grange, which we cannot wait to share with everyone.”
Mary Maughan-Otten, home manager of Fairmile Grange, added: “National Care Home Open Day is a fantastic way to engage with the local community and to show the general public the state-of-the-art facilities, which we have at our home. We believe it is very important for our residents to meet and interact with people outside of the home, and we were thrilled to see so many of our neighbours to celebrate this special day together.”
