The Tea Maker

Has anyone out there ever noticed how easy it is to file something, but how difficult it is to retrieve it? It’s true. Whenever I write a letter or report, I can immediately decide where on my computer, or where in my filing cabinet, it should go. I honestly find this process extremely simple.

However, when it comes to retrieving something, it’s a whole different ball game. I can never remember where I put it. How is that?

You’d think that a brain such as my own would be able to cope with something like this. You’d think that the same paper-trail would pop into my mind whether I was filing something or just trying to un-file it.

But it doesn’t work that way, does it? It may, of course, have nothing whatsoever to do with filing and retrieving – it may be something to do with my brain, or at least the memory part. And it’s getting worse.

Last week, I walked from my garden into my house and immediately thought, “Why the hell am I in here?” I hadn’t a fucken clue. I had obviously come into the house for something but I couldn’t remember what. I just stood there like an idiot, scanning around for something, anything, that would jog my memory. But, nothing. Then I did a really stupid thing. I went back out to the garden, stood there for a couple of minutes then started the process all over again. And guess what? Still nothing.

It’s driving me crazy. Am I losing it?
